Bedroom in Arles

He writes: “It is just simply my bedroom.”

Violet walls, a red tiled floor, chairs

“yellow as fresh butter,” he puts it,

pale green sheets and a red blanket smelling

of turpentine. Lilac doors, orange washstand,

a blue basin — enough color to choke

a skyful of sunset.
