St. Hilda of Whitby

Hilda, Hilda,

Can you hear the bells ringing?

. . . . A few snored, and some sang discords with the sleep-

roughened voices of those waked in the night

for prayer and hymnody, their froglike fervor

croaking through the monastery choir.

Hilda, Hilda,

Can you hear the bells ringing?
