Sidewalk and Ball

. . . Tomorrow promises a finished

pavement, cemented in small squares

inch by patient inch. The jot

of red joy flung on concrete

is rediscovered, thrown hand to hand

out of the laborers’ way dancing

into the middle distance . . .
