Storm after Drought

Last night, when rain stroked

the scarred earth, entering the cracks

with small invasive hands,

and clouds sang the cantos

of momentary loss, shaking the trees,

we lay in our beds breathless,

feeling relief creep through our bodies

feet first . . .
